#5. Cut Every Corner

An ode the great American work ethic, “Cut Every Corner” is Shary Bobbins’ attempt to challenge Bart and Lisa’s reluctance to clean their rooms. Shary teaches the children that if they “cut every corner then it’s really not so bad” and we see Homer throwing an old couch over the fence and Apu changing expiration dates on meat from 1984 as examples. Although Shary bares a resemblance to Mary Poppins, she insists that she is, in fact, an original creation like Ricky Rouse or Monald Muck.

Best Line

“If you cut every corner you’ll have more time for play/ It’s the American way”
