#3. The Monorail Song

When Lyle Lanley comes to Springfield he pitches the idea of building a monorail in order to “put their town on the map” as he had with Brockway, Ogdenville and North Haverbrook. He then presents the crowd a map of America on which these town’s names have clearly been handwritten by Lanley himself. Lanley then breaks into a vaudevillian-style song in which he takes questions from the townspeople about the monorail and answers the questions via hilarious lyrics. The song wins the crowd over despite Marge’s observation that “Main Street is still all cracked and broken”, to which Bart responds “Sorry Mom the mob has spoken.”

Best Line

Barney: “But what about us brain-dead slobs?”

Lanley: “You’ll be given cushy jobs!”
